Jane Delaford Taylor

Inspirational art, using traditional oils on canvas

Originally trained in fine art, but having spent two decades working full time as an educational and children’s illustrator, Jane has since brought her love of colour and visual narrative back to the canvas, using traditional oils, and occasionally gold leaf, to create vivid dream-like pieces which have gained a following of collectors worldwide in recent years.

Her current painting style owes much to the experience gained through working in educational publishing. Illustrating for education is an intensely demanding discipline that requires an intelligent approach and personal stamina from the artist as well as a sense of fun and a willingness to experiment.  Jane has illustrated for subjects across the curriculum as well as producing purely fictional illustration, for medical self help books as well as books on world history, comparative religion and African folk stories, developing along the way a range of styles that bring out the best in each project. Notable past clients include Macmillan, Blackwell Science, Nelson Thornes and the National Gallery, and she has also worked for Scottish publishers Geddes and Grosset, Waverly Books and the Findhorn Press.

Working now from her home studio beside the Holy Loch in Argyll, Jane divides her time between fulfilling client commissions and developing ideas for new personal work inspired by the Scottish Celts and their belief systems, their descendants and the land itself.

Examples of her work can be seen on her website at www.janedelafordtaylor.com
