Wilma MacKenzie Glass
Copper wheel and Diamond drill engraving on glass
Born and raised in Argyll, Wilma MacKenzie joined Edinburgh Crystal in 1977 as an apprentice copper wheel engraver. Her apprenticeship was for four years under the keen eye of Fred Lonie MBE. Leaving in 1986 to become self-employed, she met Marjorie Campbell, graphic designer, and formed the very successful partnership Luckenbooth Glass Engraving which lasted until Marjorie’s death in 1999.
Wilma now works from her workshop in the picturesque fishing village of Tarbert, using either copperwheel or diamond drill. Every stage of the process is done by hand and is very labour intensive.
Each piece is completely unique and Wilma specialises in engraving wildlife and calligraphy-inspired designs.
Mostly working to commission, Wilma has work in both private and public collections. Clients include The Royal Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, Bank of Scotland, Museums of Scotland, National Library of Scotland and many more.
